Lott Hangs On to Campaign Finance Bill

From Times Wire Reports

Even though the Senate passed its version of legislation to overhaul campaign finance laws more than a month ago, Majority Leader Trent Lott (R-Miss.) has yet to send the bill to the House, prompting angry protests from backers.

Lott said he does not intend to send the Senate-approved measure to the House until the House acts on its own version. Differing versions of the bill would allow foes to more easily kill the plan.

The Senate bill and a companion measure in the House would ban unlimited, unrestricted donations to political parties, known as “soft money,” among other provisions.
