Car Bomb Kills 6 in Colombia
BOGOTA, Colombia — A car bomb exploded in a neighborhood of upscale nightspots in Medellin, Colombia’s second-largest city, killing at least six people and injuring 82, officials said.
Isaac Gaviria, director of Metroseguridad, a paramedic organization, said at least 30 people were seriously injured in the blast late Thursday, which severely damaged restaurants and apartment buildings.
Police said the bomb was placed in a sedan and set off by remote control.
Medellin police spokesman Carlos Morales said the car was parked alongside a public park lined with discos, bars and restaurants popular with executives and college students.
Authorities said they were unaware of a motive in the bombing, which occurred shortly after 10 p.m.
Television showed images of panicked people, injured by flying glass and covered in blood, being taken away in ambulances and other vehicles. Local radio stations issued urgent calls for blood donors.
