U.S. to Continue Work on Osprey Helicopters

From Times Wire Reports

The Defense Department’s new arms acquisition chief has decided to continue development of the MV-22 Osprey aircraft but has taken acquisition authority for the proposed $40-billion program away from the Navy, the Pentagon said.

The order to move ahead fully with the tilt-rotor aircraft was made by Pete Aldridge, undersecretary of Defense for acquisition and technology. Aldridge’s office will also have greater oversight of the MV-22.

After 23 Marines died last year in two Osprey crashes the Marine Corps indefinitely postponed a decision to begin full production.
