In a special, non-subscription concert, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra hosts soloist Yo-Yo Ma in Royce Hall. The superstar cellist will play Tchaikovsky’s “Rococo” Variations and appear with pianist-conductor Jeffrey Kahane and violinist Margaret Batjer as the featured trio of soloists in Beethoven’s Triple Concerto. Kahane will also conduct Tchaikovsky’s Orchestral Suite No. 4.

All day: Exhibit

She died 39 years ago, but Marilyn Monroe is having a bit of a revival these days. First Joyce Carol Oates’ novel, “Blonde,” then a TV movie, and now a $2.4-million exhibit of her belongings opens at the Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Museum in Hollywood. Many of the items on view were purchased at the big auction of Monroe belongings in 1999, and including her makeup case, fur-trimmed glass slippers and the Mexican sweater she wore during her last magazine photo shoot in 1962.

Since the 1995 breakup of Canada’s preeminent industrial-rock band Skinny Puppy, fans have been waiting for a full-blown project from the group’s leader, Ogre. After some short-term collaborations and guest appearances, the baleful bard is back with a roar, teaming with producer-programmer Mark Walk in an enterprise called ohGr, which recently released its debut album, “Welt.”

7:30 pm: Theater

Playwright Donald Freed’s dark Richard Nixon odyssey, which began in 1985 with the critically acclaimed “Secret Honor,” continues with “American Iliad,” getting its world premiere at the Victory Theatre. In this epic with music, a 90-year-old Richard Nixon takes a journey of the mind through the 20th century up through Independence Day 2000, confronting America’s hopes, dreams and nightmares.
