AMR Corp.’s American Airlines flight attendants, whose union is one step away from a 30-day countdown to a potential walkout, probably won’t strike this summer, analysts said.

Contract talks between the airline and the Assn. of Professional Flight Attendants, which represents 23,000 workers at American, broke off Wednesday night after the National Mediation Board declared an impasse. American accepted the board’s offer of binding arbitration. The union, which had opposed the idea of arbitration, plans to respond next week.

Shares of AMR fell 73 cents to close at $37.82 on the NYSE.
