County Animal Fees to Increase July 1
Orange County supervisors this week approved increases in animal fees, including the cost of retrieving impounded pets from the county shelter in Orange.
The changes begin July 1.
Under the old fee schedule, board-and-care fees were $5 a day for each animal. The new charge will be $20 a day for large dogs and $13 for cats and medium-size or small dogs.
License fees for dogs and cats also have gone up. Owners of dogs that have not been neutered now will pay $40 a year, up from $25, as part of the county’s campaign to encourage neutering. The fee for neutered dogs will increase to $13 from $11.
Owners of neutered cats will pay a $6 fee, up from $5, but cats not neutered will cost $12, up from $10. State law does not require licensing cats, but owners often buy licenses so they will be notified when their pet is impounded, she said.
In addition, county fines for impounded dogs will increase to as much as $100 for a third offense.
