U.S. Issues Cantaloupe Warning

Federal authorities have issued a warning about contaminated cantaloupe and have blocked shipments of melons from two Mexican firms, after a deadly outbreak of food-borne illness.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said it has traced the recent outbreak of Salmonella poona to two firms, SPR de RI Legumbrera San Luis and SPR de RI Los Arroyos. The fruit is sold under the Viva brand name.
A Riverside woman and a San Diego man have died and many others in several states have become sick, the FDA said.
