Officer Honored for Helping Ill Children
From Times Staff Reports
Los Angeles Police Officer John Nichols has been awarded the California Peace Officers Assn.’s 2001 Award of Distinction for his work raising money for children needing bone marrow transplants.
The 25-year LAPD veteran previously won the “Treasures of Los Angeles Award,” which has been given in the past to honorees such as novelist Ray Bradbury.
In 1996, Nichols organized a car show at the LAPD Academy to raise money for the Children’s Hospital’s bone marrow transplant unit. The show raised more than $98,000 for the hospital.
