Saarloos Set for Opener

Cal State Fullerton plans to send its ace, right-hander Kirk Saarloos, against Mississippi State in the opening game of their best-of-three super-regional series Friday at Goodwin Field, Titan Coach George Horton said Wednesday.

Saarloos is 14-2, having won his last 14 decisions. Horton said the Titan coaches won’t decide whether senior Jon Smith or freshman Darric Merrell will start the second game Saturday until after the opener.
