Court May Reconsider Olson’s Plea-Bargain

Share

Re “Judge May Reject Olson Guilty Plea,” Nov. 2: While I believe it is ridiculous of Sara Jane Olson to use the Sept. 11 attacks as an excuse for pleading guilty, I find it nothing short of disgusting that the courts would use her remarks to overturn her plea.

By this same logic, every time a district attorney allows a defendant to plead to lesser charges, he/she would be admitting the defendant never committed the crime with which the defendant was originally charged. What should the district attorney’s and police department’s punishment be?

Kathleen Soliah, a.k.a. Sara Jane Olson, gets surprisingly good press, both on TV and in the newspapers, for a duplicitous, admitted criminal. Like most criminals, she claims she didn’t do it. Why is that news? If she had told the press that she regretted what she had done in her early life and now wished to atone for it, that would have been news.
