Investigators examining the carcass of the Kursk nuclear submarine were forced to retreat after they found explosives scattered in the forward sections, an official said.
More than 330 pounds of explosives from torpedo warheads were blown into the Kursk’s second and third compartments by the powerful blasts that sank the submarine, chief investigator Vladimir Mulov said, according to Russia’s Interfax news agency.
The explosives were found Sunday night and were removed, and investigators resumed their work, Mulov said.
