Suspect in Sikh’s Killing Will Face Death Penalty
From Times Wire Reports
Prosecutors said they will seek the death penalty against a man accused of murdering an Indian-born Sikh man, allegedly out of racial hatred sparked by the Sept. 11 attacks.
Frank Roque, a 42-year-old aircraft machinist, has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the Sept. 15 shooting of Balbir Singh Sodhi, 49, at Sodhi’s Mesa gas station.
Maricopa County Atty. Rick Romley said the death penalty decision was made after consulting with Sodhi’s family and government officials in India.
