Chile Salutes Air Guard Commander
A California Air National Guard commander has been honored by the Chilean government for his role in training a Chilean medical evacuation squadron.
Lt. Col. Gary Chambers is based at the Channel Islands Air National Guard Station near Point Mugu. He and other members of the 146th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron trained Chilean pilots over six years, teaching them how to evacuate large numbers of injured people.
Chambers received a medal for distinguished service during a recent ceremony at the Chilean Embassy in Washington, a base official said.
