City Council to Consider Mayor’s Statements
The Berkeley City Council will consider a motion today asking the mayor to be more careful with what she says.
The measure asks Mayor Shirley Dean to remove any mention of a threat of a boycott of Berkeley businesses, and that she “emphasize the strength and uniqueness of Berkeley’s businesses, which continue to enjoy a strong regional draw,” according to the measure.
A boycott threat followed the council’s recent resolution requesting a speedy end to bombing in Afghanistan. Dean’s detractors say she blew the situation out of proportion, but Dean says she’s being unfairly censored.
