Injustice Department
Re “Justice Dept. to Tighten Focus on Terrorism,” Nov. 9: In speaking of Atty. Gen. John Ashcroft, a Democratic aide complains, “Too little is known right now about what the attorney general has in mind” concerning Justice Department reorganization. We do know that he has recently attacked the publicly mandated rights of the dying in Oregon, and we know that he has consistently ignored domestic terrorist threats against women’s clinics. What is there about this agenda that we don’t understand? We must be vigilant that in our war on terrorism the U.S. does not become just another theocratically oppressive state.
