Cal Lutheran University has been awarded a $750,000 federal grant to train bilingual teachers, school officials have announced.

The award from the U.S. Department of Education will be disbursed in three annual installments, officials said. The first disbursement of $249,000 was made this year.

The grant will allow the university’s School of Education to train 15 new teachers a year and add a bilingual educator to the faculty. The grant will pay for tuition, books and supplies for students working on their California Bilingual Basic Credential.
