Costco Shopper’s Killer Sentenced to Life Term
A Tijuana man has pleaded guilty to killing an aspiring screenwriter during an August 2000 shootout with an armored car guard outside a Costco store in Van Nuys.
A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge sentenced Ramon Gutierrez, 39, on Tuesday to life in prison without the possibility of parole, plus 25 years to life. Gutierrez killed Owen Wolf, 29, of Studio City and wounded three other shoppers during the robbery attempt.
Gutierrez’s brother, Ignacio Cervantes Chavez, 48, was convicted Nov. 2 of first-degree murder and four counts of attempted murder for driving the getaway van. He is set to be sentenced Friday.
