Guilty Verdict Reached in Insurance Fraud Case
An Oxnard man has been convicted of 14 counts of workers’ compensation insurance fraud after an investigation by the Ventura County district attorney’s office and the state insurance department’s fraud division.
Prosecutors said Jeffrey Rene Pilon, a 41-year-old security guard, was secretly working and attending Rio Hondo College Police Academy in Whittier while collecting disability for alleged injuries.
After a seven-day trial, a jury took less than four hours Wednesday to find Pilon guilty on all 14 counts.
Prosecutors said Pilon faces up to five years in prison and a $50,000 fine, and may have to pay restitution to the insurance companies.
Sentencing is set for Dec. 12.
