They’re Singin’ the Blues on Elvis Presley Blvd.
Times Wire Reports
Hard times and a slump in foreign visitors since Sept. 11 have turned Elvis Presley Boulevard into Lonely Street.
The company that keeps the singer’s memory alive in a complex of tourist attractions revolving around his grave and home in Memphis, Tenn., said Friday it has laid off 50 people, 15% of its work force.
Elvis Presley Enterprises cited a drop in foreign tourists, who account for nearly a third of its business at Graceland. Tourism was down before the attacks but the trend has continued, the company said.
