After analyzing footage from casino security cameras, Garden Grove police Sunday released a photograph of the man they suspect followed residents home from the Hawaiian Gardens Casino and robbed them, killing one, as they tried to enter their homes with their winnings.

Edward Nguyen, 54, was shot and killed outside his home in the 8700 block of Hewitt Boulevard in Garden Grove on Nov. 4, according to police Sgt. Mike Handfield. Nguyen and his wife were returning from a night of gambling. His wife had more than $10,000 in her purse.

As Nguyen’s wife got out of the car, she allegedly was grabbed by the robber.

He snatched her purse and then ran back to his car, a white or light-colored Dodge Caravan parked behind the Nguyens’ car, police said.

Edward Nguyen put his car in reverse and rammed it into the robber’s car. The robber then fired through the windshield at Nguyen, hitting him in the head.

Police said that a few weeks earlier, the same gunman robbed another Garden Grove resident.
