Threatening Box Left at Post Office

Law enforcement officials are searching for a man who dropped off a package covered with threatening messages at the Lancaster post office Monday, causing a seven-hour evacuation.

The shoe box-sized parcel was left in a 24-hour lobby. On the package were drawings of two tall buildings exploding, and a poem: “Roses are red, violets are blue/soon God’s wrath/will be upon you,” Postal Inspector Pamela Prince said.

A county hazardous materials team found what appeared to be laundry detergent inside the package, Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials said.The post office, at 43824 20th St. West, was closed until shortly before noon, Prince said.

A surveillance camera videotaped the suspect, officials said. The man was described as white, 5 feet 8, with a medium build, and was wearing light-blue jeans, red baseball cap and a white hooded sweatshirt. Officials said his legs appeared to be disfigured.
