From Times Staff Reports

An Asiana Airlines jumbo jet from Inchon, South Korea, landed safely early Wednesday at Los Angeles International Airport after a passenger made a bomb threat early in the flight, an FBI spokeswoman said.

El Cajon resident Young Kun Kim, 62, verbally abused flight attendants about 30 minutes into the flight because he was unhappy about his seat assignment, said Laura Bosley, a spokeswoman for the FBI’s Los Angeles office.

Kim, who was intoxicated when he boarded the airplane, then jumped out of his seat and started kicking an emergency exit door, she said. Other passengers said he threatened to blow up the plane, Bosley said.

Kim was handcuffed for the remaining 8 1/2 hours of the flight, she said. The plane landed without incident at LAX at 9:26 a.m. About 221 were aboard the flight, with 14 crew members.

Kim was taken into federal custody and will probably be charged Friday with interference with a flight crew, a felony, Bosley said.
