UCLA to Host Dayton Saturday

The third-seeded UCLA women’s soccer team will host Dayton at 1 p.m. Saturday at Drake Stadium in a third-round game of the NCAA tournament.

The Bruins (19-2) are unbeaten at home the last three seasons, a streak of 26 games.

Their last home loss was to Brigham Young on Nov. 14, 1998, in the second round of the NCAA playoffs.

UCLA has never played the unseeded Flyers (17-5).

The Bruins are coming off playoff victories over Cal State Fullerton and 25th-ranked Pepperdine.

UCLA’s 3-0 victory over Fullerton was its 13th shutout this season, two short of the school record, set last season.

The Bruins defeated the Waves, 2-1, to advance to the third round.

The UCLA men’s soccer team will make its 19th consecutive appearance in the NCAA tournament when it plays Loyola Marymount at 7 p.m. Friday at University of San Diego’s Torero Stadium.

The No. 20-ranked Bruins (10-6-4) were defeated, 1-0, by the Lions (9-6-2) in their only meeting Sept. 30 at UCLA.

Before the loss, UCLA had defeated Loyola 18 consecutive times.

The winner advances to the second round at 1 p.m. Sunday and will face host San Diego (12-3-1), which is ranked 13th.

Cal State Dominguez Hills continues its attempt to defend the NCAA Division II men’s soccer national championship when it plays Nov. 30 in the Final Four at University of Tampa.

The No. 4-ranked Toros (23-1-1) will play No. 3 Dowling (N.Y.) College (15-0-3) in the opener at 2 p.m.

Second-ranked Tampa (18-0-2) will then host No. 10 Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (16-2-3).

The winners will play at 10 a.m. Dec. 2 for the title.

Redlands (19-3) will take on defending national champion and host Messiah at 2 p.m. Friday in Grantham, Pa., in one semifinal of the NCAA Division III men’s soccer tournament.

Stockton, N.J., (24-1) will play Ohio Wesleyan (19-6) in the other semifinal at 4:30 p.m.

The winners will play for the national title at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Cal State San Bernardino setter Amy Pope, a senior from Riverside Poly High, has been selected player of the year for the NCAA Division II Pacific Region by the American Volleyball Coaches Assn.

Pope broke her season record for assists and finished as the Coyotes’ career leader.

She was joined on the first team by sophomore teammates Kim Ford of Etiwanda, Kim Morohunfola of Upland and Kristen Soliz of San Bernardino Cajon.

Cal State L.A. middle blocker Caryn Sale, a senior from Capistrano Valley, was also selected to the Pacific Region team.

Sale finished in the top 10 in hitting percentage, kills and blocks for the Golden Eagles.
