Hasty Farewell to ‘Aida’
We had the wonderful (mis)fortune to attend the first preview of Disney’s “Aida” at the Ahmanson. A bigger waste of money we could not find outside of government. The songs are inane and completely forgettable, the characters all seem to slip into a southern accent and, most blatant of all, Disney has “lifted” material from almost every movie or musical, the result being a horrible mishmash that doesn’t even play as a revue. We decided to leave at intermission, and it turned out we weren’t alone in our decision!
