MY FAVORITE WEEKEND

* The actor stars in “So Little Time” on the Fox Family channel and appears in the TNT movie “Call Me Claus” Sunday at 8 p.m.

A Meal with a View: I start off with aperitifs and dinner at the beach in Santa Monica. The new Lobster restaurant on Santa Monica pier has terrific architecture, is great for drinks and has the most spectacular view. I also love escaping to the Sam’s Bistro in old Santa Monica Canyon--really good French fare where you can see and smell the ocean. After dinner it’s fun to walk next door to the Friendship. They have the oldest liquor license in the city, so you’re in good hands.

Mission Accomplished: A nice trip is a drive to see a historic mission. Californians are experts on the subject. In school, I constructed all 22 missions out of sugar cubes. I head up the Grapevine to the Mission San Miguel Archangel. It’s off the beaten path, not far from San Luis Obispo. It has the most perfect garden. No grass. Ancient cacti growing with poppies and sage in between. You can see what California looked like before leaf blowers, dry desert and pepper trees.

Walking in L.A.: I take long walks on Sundays. No one walks anywhere in Los Angeles. Sometimes I walk to the Farmers Market on Fairfax to meet Teri Garr and Henriette Mantel and tell old Hollywood stories. Sometimes, I walk across the flats of Beverly Hills and head up to the Polo Lounge for breakfast. (I have never seen any actual humans on this walk, so I make up stories about the inhabitants.) The Polo Lounge is perfect and really sexy. A great place to practice being an adult. Eggs hollandaise and pommes frites. I bring a Jackie Collins book, just in case!

Groovin’: I’ve been throwing “bring your record album parties.” I have my friends over to listen to albums by Cat Stevens, Tito Puente and ABBA. If we’re not too mellow, we head for Spoken Interludes, a monthly literary salon at the Tempest Supper Club. People like Stephen Tobolowsky and Marcia Gay Harden read their original stories and essays there. It’s a comforting way to end a weekend--having funny, famous people read you a story. Very Los Angeles!
