From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Napa’s weekend wine auction on Saturday broke a one-day record by selling more than 90,000 bottles, and organizers think they may have sold all 1 million bottles from the inventory of failed online retailer Wine.com Inc.

The most expensive bottle--a 1921 Chateau D’Yquem that sold for $2,000--went to a private buyer who placed the bid online.

“The Internet played a major role in the auction,” said Roger Sanford, president of Redwood City-based Realm Connect, which oversaw the auction.
