Gunmen Assassinate Opposition Congressman
From Times Wire Reports
Gunmen assassinated an opposition congressman, the third member of Colombia’s Congress to be slain in the past year.
Fellow lawmakers said Liberal Party Rep. Octavio Sarmiento was killed near his farm in Arauca state. No group claimed responsibility.
Four other members of Congress are being held hostage by leftist rebels. Sarmiento’s killing came three days after former Culture Minister Consuelo N. Araujo was found slain.
