When Bonds Comes to Plate, Somebody Will Be Showing It

As Barry Bonds continues his pursuit of Mark McGwire’s home-run record of 70, television has all the bases covered.

All of Bonds’ remaining games will be televised.

Bonds and the San Francisco Giants, playing at Houston, will be on ESPN2 tonight for the second consecutive night.

Thursday night’s game at Houston will be on the Fox Family channel, with Fox announcers Josh Lewin and George Frazier calling the action. ESPN plans to break into regular programming if Bonds homers.

The Giants’ season-ending series against the Dodgers at San Francisco will be televised locally and nationally. Friday’s game will be on Fox Sports Net 2 locally and joined in progress on ESPN nationally. ESPN is televising Houston-St. Louis, which should end around 8 p.m.

Saturday’s Dodger-Giant afternoon game is one of three games being televised by the Fox network that day, and if Bonds still hasn’t set the record, Fox will show each at-bat to the nation.

Sunday’s Dodger-Giant finale will be televised by Channel 5, with ESPN2 offering cut-ins to the nation if Bonds is still chasing the record.

In addition, ESPN Radio is carrying live every at-bat of Bonds’.

Saturday’s Boston Red Sox-Baltimore Oriole game at Camden Yards--Cal Ripken’s Jr.’s final game--will be televised by FX, with Lewin and Keith Hernandez announcing. FX will show the one-hour pregame festivities, plus all postgame festivities.

Tony Gwynn’s final game Sunday will be part of ESPN2 whip-around coverage of all games going on at the time.
