From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The Bay Area’s environment is deteriorating in a number of areas, including air quality and habitat protection, according to a report by a national environmental group.

The Natural Resources Defense Council said the Bay Area is improving in wetland restoration, increased public transit use, decreased reports of childhood lead poisoning and electing legislators friendly to the environment.

But the environment was worsening with an increase in invasive species, an increase in garbage, and an increase in contaminated fish in San Francisco Bay, the report said.
