From Times Staff Reports

Six candidates, including state Assemblyman Tony Cardenas (D-Sylmar) and DreamWorks executive Wendy Greuel, filed papers by the deadline Friday to compete in the Dec. 11 election for the City Council’s 2nd District seat.

To make the ballot, the potential candidates who filed papers by Friday must collect signatures on nominating petitions by Oct. 20. The seat was vacated last week by the departure of Joel Wachs.

Other candidates who filed declarations of intention to run were businessman James P. Cordaro of Van Nuys, journalist and entrepreneur Marc Strassman of Valley Village, business administrator Jose Bonilla of Arleta and quality practices manager Bob Bell of Sun Valley. Meanwhile, Cardenas announced Friday that he has won the endorsements of Rep. Howard Berman (D-Panorama City) and Assembly Speaker Bob Hertzberg (D-Sherman Oaks).
