Bin Laden’s Terror Associates

Share

Oct. 2 was the first time I read a reference in the press to master terrorist and probable planner of the Sept. 11 attacks, Egyptian Dr. Ayman Zawahiri.

I saw a detailed e-mail from Israel dated Sept. 19 outlining his resume of murder and terrorism. His colleague in terror is the Lebanese Imad Mughniyah, who has ties with Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden. I believe more light needs to be shed on these two villains (in addition to Bin Laden) as the probable enemies in this war on terrorism. The countries that hide these killers need to make strong efforts to not only discredit them in public but to expose them and help the United States capture them (or kill them).

Ireland and England were beautiful. My husband and I returned Sept. 14. Listening to the reasoned and intelligent analysis on the BBC radio for three days, coming home to America’s war on U.S. television, reading editorials in two papers, writing letters to the editor, reading of anthrax and other biological weapons, and now of an Egyptian medical doctor, scholar, poet and terrorist, Zawahiri, I am overwhelmed, along with the world. Beautiful memories of this Irish trip sustain me.

I have to believe that man’s inhumanity to man will stop. We cannot have it both ways. We have to hear other people or not be heard ourselves. To start, we must hear ourselves. It is called becoming conscious. Now I look at two beautiful, postcard views of Ireland that I will send my two college-enrolled granddaughters. I tell them that I want them and their eight cousins to live the magic of discovery, to love the Earth as I do. That’s what I hold in my heart. That’s where my prayers are, with life, all life.

As far as I’m concerned, the terrorists have won. They managed to scare the daylights out of us. Even though we’ve had drive-bys, murder, robberies, rapes, etc., occur on a daily basis, people still went shopping, flew on planes, etc. Today, it’s “Jaws” in the air, and people are afraid of being bitten.

Not me. I will continue to live my life. I will deny the terrorists here and abroad the satisfaction of my being afraid. I will wave my flag and support the efforts of those in charge to get some deserved satisfaction from those responsible. I will support our capitalist, democratic way of life. For those who won’t or are too scared to, I ask, are you going to let fear rule your life? Not me.
