UCLA, Arizona Reloading

UCLA and Arizona met last season to decide the NCAA softball championship, and they’re battling again for the nation’s top high school recruits.

In the competition for pitchers, Arizona picked up a commitment from Alicia Hollowell from Fairfield in Northern California. She’s considered the top pitcher in the nation and chose the Wildcats over the Bruins and Stanford. UCLA gained pitcher Michelle Turner from La Palma Kennedy.

Now the recruiting competition is focused on catcher Lauren Lappin of Anaheim Loara, who’s down to Arizona, UCLA , Oklahoma and Stanford....

Westchester has four boys’ basketball players being heavily recruited, according to Coach Ed Azzam. Guard Hassan Adams is visiting Arizona this weekend for Midnight Madness. He’s also considering UCLA, Oregon and Kansas. Guard Ashanti Cook is visiting New Mexico and considering Oregon and Minnesota. Forward Keith Everage is interested in Oregon State and San Diego. Guard Brandon Heath is looking at Wyoming and Wake Forest, among others....

Keion Kindred, a 6-foot-4 point guard from Compton Dominguez, has committed to Texas-El Paso....

Center fielder Steve Moss of Sherman Oaks Notre Dame has visited Cal State Fullerton and Santa Clara. He’s also considering UCLA, California and Long Beach State....

Katie Rivera, a girls’ soccer player from Santa Margarita, has committed to UCLA.
