Charlie Duncan, 50; Senior Official in Clinton White House
Charlie Duncan, 50, a senior official in the Clinton administration and a prominent Democratic campaigner, died Sept. 20 of complications from AIDS at his home in Washington, D.C.
During his eight years in the Clinton administration, Duncan served as senior advisor and White House liaison for former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and White House liaison to the Defense Department.
A Boston native, Duncan was a former San Francisco-based political and public relations consultant. In 1990, he was in charge of Nelson Mandela’s visit to Detroit after the South African leader’s release from prison and Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev’s visit to Minnesota.
Duncan also worked on the presidential campaigns of Clinton, former President Jimmy Carter, Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, former Vice President Walter Mondale and former Massachusetts Gov. Michael Dukakis.
