FCC Proposes Fining SBC Over False Data

Share

The Federal Communications Commission proposed fining regional phone giant SBC Communications Inc. $2.52 million for submitting false data as part of an application seeking FCC approval to offer long-distance service in Kansas and Oklahoma.

The incident stems from documents submitted by three employees of the San Antonio-based company, which allegedly misled a rival firm about the number of SBC customers who might be interested in high-speed Internet access lines. SBC, parent of Pacific Bell, had maintained that the mistake was inadvertent.
