Flying the Flag at Night

Share

A recent rash of self-appointed authorities on flag etiquette have criticized the practice of flying our flag at night without shining a light on it. Take it from an old soldier--our flag is not afraid of the dark and the colors don’t run. The words of our national anthem say “by the dawn’s early light” and “gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.” Illuminated only by the “rockets’ red glare” and “the bombs bursting in air,” our flag endured. In times of national threat and peril, fly the flag 24 hours a day with pride and certainty.
