Parnevik, Garcia Join Ryder Team

Sergio Garcia of Spain and Jesper Parnevik of Sweden were selected Sunday as wild cards for the European Ryder Cup team, completing the squad that will challenge the United States at The Belfry.

European captain Sam Torrance announced the picks after

Phillip Price of Wales hung on to take the 10th berth based on tour standings.

Joining Garcia, Parnevik and Price for the matches Sept. 28-30 in England are Pierre Fulke and Niclas Fasth of Sweden, Padraig Harrington and Paul McGinley of Ireland, Darren Clarke of Northern Ireland, Thomas Bjorn of Denmark, Colin Montgomerie of Scotland, Lee Westwood of England and Bernhard Langer of Germany.

“Sergio is No. 6-No. 7 in the world, obviously world class, “ Torrance said.

“Jesper is No. 21 in the world, a great asset to the team. They’ve both been there before and done it and have a lot of experience.”
