Woman Killed in Her Disabled Car
A woman who was waiting for help in a car disabled on the westbound Riverside Freeway was killed Monday when she was struck by another motorist.
The woman, whose identity was not released, was stuck in the third lane of the freeway near Gypsum Canyon Road with a flat tire about 7:30 a.m., a California Highway Patrol dispatcher said.
A Toyota pickup truck going about 60 mph struck the woman’s car, which caught on fire and slammed into a sound wall. The truck’s driver and police were unsuccessful in breaking windows to pull out the woman. No one has been cited in the accident. An investigation is continuing.
Three lanes of traffic were closed for about three hours after the accident.
