From Times Staff Reports
Nearly 50 crashes occurred on Ventura County highways and 24 arrests were made for suspected drunk driving during the Labor Day weekend, the California Highway Patrol reported Tuesday.
Of the 49 crashes, 17 involved injuries, said Officer Dave Webb.
During last year’s holiday weekend there were also 24 drunk-driving arrests, but only 36 crashes. Webb attributed the jump in crashes to an increase in the number of travelers.
For a second consecutive year, no traffic fatalities were reported in the county.
