The Top 5
European Ryder Cup captain Sam Torrance selected Sergio Garcia and Jesper Parnevik for the matches to be played later this month at the Belfry. Last month, Curtis Strange made Paul Azinger and Scott Verplank members of the U.S. team. Here, now, are the top five players who should be in the Ryder Cup, but aren’t:
1. Tom Lehman. One of best competitive spirits today.
2. Jose Maria Olazabal. What’s a Ryder Cup without Olazabal and Ballesteros?
3. Miguel Angel Jimenez. Spaniards must have too many names.
4. Ian Woosnam. Welshman has too many drivers.
5. Justin Leonard. Made putt in 1999, will watch putts in 2001.
