Cal State Northridge Extension introduces a new course, “Making Movies: The Craft of Creating Motion Pictures,” to its curriculum this fall.
Taught by Alan Jay Glueckman, a screenwriter and producer, the class features advance screenings of movies before their release.
Over eight Wednesday evenings beginning next week, writers and directors (subject to final availability) will screen their new movies, including “Joy Ride” (writers Clay Tarver and Jeffrey Abrams; director John Dahl); “Zoolander” (writers John Hamburg and Drake Sather; director Ben Stiller); “Life as a House” (writer Mark Andrus; director Irwin Winkler); and “Bandits” (writer Harley Peyton; director Barry Levinson).
The post-screening discussions will focus on the creative process: how a movie is first conceptualized, the role of the screenwriter in blueprinting the story and characters, and the role of the director in interpreting the script into pictures and creating a unifying vision.
The class meets at the Mann’s Granada Hills 9 theaters, Devonshire at Balboa, North Hills, near the Cal State Northridge campus. Registration is $99.
Information: (818) 677-CSUN.
