16-Year-Old Is Killed When Car Strikes Tree
A 16-year-old Dana Hills High School student was fatally injured Friday when his car spun and struck a tree near Niguel Road and Camino del Avion in Dana Point, authorities said.
“The car was split in half,” said Lt. Larry Abbott, a spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Police did not release the student’s name pending notification of his parents. He was declared dead at the scene.
Investigators believe the youth was traveling west on Camino del Avion at a high speed when he lost control of the car about 9:30 p.m., Abbott said. The incident is still under investigation, he said.
