The Great Divide

Share

California should be classified as a country or divided into three states. The state is grossly underrepresented in the United States Senate. California’s population is more than the 20 least populous states combined. I realize that when the U.S. Senate was initiated, it allowed equal representation to the smallest state.

But with California’s burgeoning population, this rule is ridiculous. California has more population than Canada, as well as many other countries. If we can’t make California a separate country, I would propose that states be limited to 10 to 12 million in size. As such, California would be divided into three states and have six U.S. senators. Both New York and Texas should be divided as well, since both have about 20 million in population. Let’s put the proposal on the ballot and see what happens.
