* Television writer Victoria Riskin was elected president of the Writers Guild of America, West, the office that represents Los Angeles film and TV writers. Riskin, who defeated Michael Mahern for the two-year term, takes over the presidency from writer and producer John Wells. Charles D. Holland was elected vice president, with Patric M. Verrone elected secretary-treasurer.

FelCor Lodging Trust Inc. called off its planned $1.1-billion acquisition of MeriStar Hospitality Corp., citing adverse changes in the financial and tourism markets after the terrorist attacks. The deal would have created the largest hotel company in terms of rooms managed. FelCor shares rose 19 cents to close at $12.70, and MeriStar fell $2.86 to close at $8.65, both on the NYSE.

Boeing Co. agreed to pay $92.5 million to settle a class-action suit by shareholders that accused it of failing to tell investors in a timely fashion that the company would take a $1.6-billion charge to shut down airliner assembly lines. Boeing did not admit liability in the settlement.
