Drug Lab Suspected as Blast Destroys 3 Homes
An explosion and fire destroyed a two-story home and two other buildings Tuesday and forced the temporary evacuation of hundreds of people from nearby apartments, authorities said.
Fire investigators found evidence of a possible methamphetamine lab in the home at 2705 Via Paseo, near Garfield Street, said Montebello Fire Department Battalion Chief Steve Huson. Two other homes on the same property were also destroyed.
No one was killed or injured, but three firefighters and a police officer suffered minor injuries as they battled the blaze, Huson said.
