Yahoo Will Offer Business Broadcasts

Bloomberg News

Yahoo Inc., owner of the most-used Internet search site, will begin broadcasting business conferences and corporate announcements on the Web in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Businesses using the service can put audio and video from trade shows and meetings on the Internet, and a browser will allow users to view several sessions from the same event, Yahoo said. The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company didn’t disclose a cost for the service.

Yahoo is trying to appeal to companies that are cutting back on employee travel after the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Yahoo has been trying to develop fee-based services to offset declines in advertising sales, and analysts have said there may be increased demand for videoconferencing services.
