86 Hurt in Collision of Commuter Trains
Two commuter trains collided head-on in southern Germany, injuring 86 people, nine seriously, after an engineer overlooked a signal telling him to stop, national railway officials said.
Each train was carrying about 150 schoolchildren and morning commuters.
Both engineers and several children ages 10 to 15 were among those seriously injured, said Thomas Fischer, chief emergency services doctor. None suffered life-threatening injuries, he said.
The collision occurred on a stretch of single track in the village of Enzisweiler, near Austria.
