Face of the ‘Enemy’

On the front page of last Saturday’s Calendar was a head shot of a young Afghan woman, her face covered in a pink veil, save for her beautiful, brown eyes filled with tears and pain (“An Unflinching View,” by Elizabeth Jensen).

I clipped that photo. Every time I look at it, I feel such compassion. Here is the face of the people our government is poised to bomb, a people who have suffered greatly already.
