Los Angeles Mayor James K. Hahn nominated five people Friday to the city Recreation and Parks Commission, selecting four new members and reappointing a political ally to the influential panel.

The board not only has oversight of the city’s extensive park system, but also controls contracts to operate city-owned venues such as the Greek Theatre.

Attorney and lobbyist Lisa Specht was the only member of the previous five-member commission whom Hahn opted to bring back. Specht, who has served on several city boards, including the Recreation and Parks Commission, once ran against Hahn for city attorney. But she has since become a strong backer and co-chaired his recent mayoral campaign.

Hahn’s other appointees were former state Assemblyman Mike Roos, inner-city developer Christopher Hammond, architect Christopher Pak and Christina Sanchez Camino, director of public affairs at KMEX-TV Channel 34.

The nominations must be confirmed by the City Council.

As of Friday, Hahn had appointed 89 commissioners to dozens of city panels. The mayor has yet to name nominees for 221 other seats, which are currently filled with appointees from past administrations.
