FBI Says 4 Jailed After Entering Marine Base

Four men who said they were trying to expose lax military security were arrested for trespassing on the Camp Pendleton Marine base and destroying more than 400 pounds of produce, meat and cheese in a late-night food fight.

The four, including two former Marines, videotaped their exploits, intending to provide the tape to the news media as proof of inadequate military security, Special Agent Jan Caldwell, a spokeswoman for the FBI, said Friday.

The men, all self-employed alarm salesmen from the Los Angeles area, were charged Friday with misdemeanor counts of trespassing, malicious mischief, destruction of government property and false use of a military pass, Caldwell said. They have not yet entered pleas.

Late Wednesday night, the four drove onto the base after Brett Jensen, 24, and Travis Delgadillo, 24, showed expired Marine ID cards. The four allegedly drove to a mess hall, but a worker told them the building was closed. Later, they forced their way in through a rear window and picked the lock on a refrigerator, Caldwell said.

Authorities say the men destroyed 12 pounds of cheese, 12 loaves of bread, 75 pounds of honeydew melon, 198 pounds of watermelon, 20 pounds of mushrooms, 20 pounds of beef, 15 pounds of bacon, and 64 pounds of tomatoes.

The mess hall employee returned to the area, saw their car and called military police.

Jensen and Delgadillo were arrested along with Steve Esteves, 24, and Peter Marshall, 35, about 2a.m. Thursday.

The men were turned over to the FBI and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, and booked into the federal jail in downtown San Diego.
