The Real Motives in Kline Ballot Fight?

Re “Board to Fight Kline’s Pullout,” March 26:

I voted for John Adams, a man about whom I knew very little, in the primary election, but I have been disappointed with his actions since the election. The county Board of Supervisors’ attempt to keep Superior Court Judge Ronald C. Kline’s name on the ballot smacks less of a genuine desire to preserve a legal principle than of an attempt to secure the easiest opponent for Adams in November.

Supervisor Todd Spitzer ought to have recused himself in this matter, since he publicly endorsed Adams. If Kline wants to get off the ballot, then let the voters choose between the two highest write-in candidates, rather than between Adams and a candidate whom virtually no one now wants.

Spitzer said that he doesn’t want to create a precedent of dropping candidates from the ballot. Either he is lacking in candor or else is forgetting the election of Scott Baugh to the Assembly. Has he ever heard of Haydee Tillotson? She “voluntarily” quit the special election race a few weeks before election day after a “little powwow” with her party’s leaders. It was too late to remove her name from the ballot, but the party leaders got what they wanted. So, the precedent already exists.
